Leaving Surrey Satellites Technology Ltd.

After a brilliant and exciting year at SSTL, my prolonged time there (contract got extended twice!) has come to an end and it's time for me to say my goodbyes to everyone, and start preparing for resuming life as a student for another couple of years at University.

I have witnessed the launch of 7 satellites, worked on over 10 different projects for 5 different missions, it has been a very fruitful and beneficial year, where I learnt a lot of new things and met a lot of interesting people.

And most importantly, I now know that  .... The sky isn't the limit!

Joining Surrey Satellites Technology Ltd.

As part of our university degree, we are required to take a training year out in industry, and I was lucky enough to get an offer from Surrey Satellites Technology Ltd! One the most exciting companies to work for in the country!

Who are they? and What do they do?

As the name suggest they deal with satellites, and no they don't go round people's houses putting up satellite dishes! They build and manufacture the satellites which get launched into space!

The company was started by students from the University of Surrey, who were working on a project that aimed at building a small low budget satellite from commercial components (COTS - Commercial of the Shelf) in contrast to Military & Space grade components. After getting the opportunity to launch their project into space and have it work, the potential of small satellites was realised, and the company was formed.

I look forward to starting work there.

Winning an award wasn't all I got from attending the UAE challenge, I was surprised to get an email from the organisers about a little trip to Stockholm to complement my award!

UAE Educational IT Challenge Winner

On the 22nd of April 2006, Matrix Quiz was nominated to be a winning project in the UAE Educational IT challenge for the Secondary Schools Category.

This was truly an amazing experience, the two free nights in a luxurious hotel, the free breakfast, lunch, and dinner, something I'd definitely do again!

Honestly now, its was great, finally achieved something with my hobby, found out I wasn't the only crazy 17 year old out there, also met many people who were interested in my work, and some who actually encouraged me to commercialize Matrix Quiz.
